Cliff May Unedited Interview Pt. 2
CLIFF MAY: We did do Hiroshima, do you think Harry Truman is a war criminal for that?
JON STEWART: (pause) Yeah -- yeah
MAY: You do? OK
STEWART: Here's what I think on the Atom bomb. If we had dropped the Atom bomb 50 miles offshore and say that next one is coming to hit. Then I would think it's OK. To Drop it on a city and kill hundreds of thousands of people. Yeah I think that's criminal.

JON STEWART: The other night... I may have mentioned... that Harry Truman was a criminal (pause for laughter) and right after saying it I thought to myself that was dumb. And uh it was dumb, stupid in fact. So I shouldn't have said that and yet I did. So I say right now -- No I don't believe that to be the case, the atomic bomb was a very complicated decision in the context of a horrific war

He could have tried explaining but instead he mugs his way through the whole bit. Which is what he always does when he gets in a jam while playing serious pundit: Clown nose off, clown nose on.
